The Green Holiday Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2002/3 is a co-production by the European Centre for Ecological and Agricultural Tourism (ECEAT) and Green Books. ECEAT promotes sustainable tourism on organic farms and other small-scale, eco-friendly places to stay in beautiful natural surroundings, many of them well off the beaten track.

This new edition gives details of approximately 180 places to stay. Many are on working organic farms, which have a lot to offer both adults and children: a homely, informal atmosphere, tasty meals using organic ingredients wherever possible, and often farm trails and an abundance of animals both wild and domesticated. Those who want to get a taste of farm work may be able to help with milking and other activities. Your hosts will usually be very happy to tell you about their farming activities and show you around. The Guide also lists which farms have forest gardens, use permaculture and bio-dynamic principles, and have buildings renovated using environmentally friendly materials. Many of the owners are very knowledgeable about nature and wildife, and actively encourage its presence on their premises. A large number of the places have a variety of outdoor activities and creative programmes on offer ? either run by themselves or situated nearby ? such as trekking, riding, cycling, bird-watching, painting, photography, courses on organic and bio-dynamic farming, permaculture etc.
The places included vary from the highly luxurious to basic camp sites with outdoor compost toilets and a cold water tap. Their common feature is their authentic, sustainable, small-scale character, a friendly and personal approach, and a healthy natural environment.
